Who is eligible to enter the contest?

Professional photographers and photography hobbyists alike are invited to participate in this photo contest. To enter the photo contest, participant/photographers must be at least 18 years of age or have written permission to participate from a parent or legal guardian.

How do I submit my photos for the contest?

Entries can be either color or black and white images. Standard prints can be mailed, postage paid, to Milanof-Schock Library - 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, PA 17552 OR Manheim Community Library -15 East High Street, Manheim, PA 17545.

Images must be 4” x 6” in size and provided in hard copy.

The Official Entry Form and any and all Model Release Forms are required for entry. Entries must be submitted / postmarked by August 15, 2008 to be accepted for each contest. We are not responsible and cannot be held liable for any photos submitted which are lost or damaged.

Photos containing any recognizable person or persons must be accompanied by a signed model release form signed by any recognizable person or persons in the photo. There are separate releases for Adult models and Minor models (under age 18). Please fill out the appropriate form and submit it with your photo entries.

What are the photograph categories?

Entries must be designated as one of the six (6) contest categories including:

  1. Our Town
  2. Pets
  3. Children
  4. Sports
  5. Families
  6. Nature

How will the photos be judged?

A panel of local artists and photographers will review all entries that have been submitted to select the finalist for public voting. Entries will be judged on the basis of photographic quality, creativity, and effectiveness in conveying the subject.

Entries may be disqualified and/or discarded for any reason including failure to comply with any portion of the official Photo Contest rules.

What happens to the winning photographs?

Winning selections may be featured in displays at the Manheim Community & Milanof-Schock Libraries and in Engle Publishing’s Merchandiser newspaper, as well as the Memories Of A Lifetime website and marketing materials that may be published.

Can I modify my photos?

Images must be of content captured via a camera and may not include significantly modified or digitally edited content. Only minor (if any) brightness or contrast enhancements be made to photo submissions, and entries will be judged based on their content and how the photo conveys/communicates the subject.

How many photos can I submit?

Photographers may submit a maximum of three (3) photos for the purpose of entry into the Photography Contest. We reserve the right, in our sole and unfettered discretion, to decide what constitutes inappropriate content.

When is the entry deadline?

Entries must be submitted / postmarked by August 15, 2008 to be accepted for the contest.

Who does this contest benefit?

The Manheim Community and Milanof-Schock Libraries serve as a cornerstone of learning and community gathering place for the Manheim and Donegal regions. The Memories Of A Lifetime Photo contest was conceived to help raise much needed funds for the libraries.

The contest is sponsored by Buch Funeral Home in Manheim and Heilig Funeral Home in Mount Joy; in conjunction with Engle Printing & Publishing Company, which publishes the local Elizabethtown-Mount Joy Merchandiser and the Manheim-Lititz Merchandiser.

What are the additional terms - copyright?

Photographers retain copyright to any submitted photographs. By submitting said photographs for the Photo Contest, photographers agree to full/unrestricted use of submitted photos by the Manheim Community & Milanof-Schock Libraries at any time. Photo entries must have been taken by the submitter. Do not submit any photo taken by someone other than yourself. You must be the exclusive owner of copyright for any photo submitted to the Photo Contest. By submitting said photo(s), you guarantee you are the author and copyright holder of the photo. Photos submitted need not include credit for the photographer when used or reproduced by the Manheim Community & Milanof-Schock Libraries. The Manheim Community & Milanof-Schock Libraries retain the right to distribute, transmit, publish, copy or otherwise exploit whether in whole or in part, either digitally or in any other medium now known or later discovered, the photographs submitted. Photos submitted may be cropped, resized, and otherwise altered by the Manheim Community & Milanof-Schock Libraries. The Manheim Community & Milanof-Schock Libraries reserves the right to request alternate formats from the submitting photographer.

What is the timeline for the contest?

Announcement of content - May 1

Photo entry deadline - August 15

Judge selection process to pick top 30 photos
(five in each of the six categories) - August 24

Display in community and ongoing voting - August 25 to October 19

Deadline for public voting - October 19

Announcement of winners - October 24
